As we head into the winter months, and the weekly training sessions across the different age-groups will move indoors to the Upper Glanmire Sports Hall, we are glad to report that the good weather throughout September and October allowed each of our under-age teams to play a whole series of games. In last month’s article we focused on the under 10’s who have continued their busy schedule of games into October – playing Claughaun (Limerick), Grenagh and Aghada in recent weeks.
Our U7’s played both Aghada and Carriag na bhFear in hurling matches recently also. White’s Cross were under pressure from the off against Aghada, but Eddie Coughlan and Ruairi Quinlan were outstanding in defence and the Aghada forwards found it very hard to score and a super goal from Traolach Dawson put us level at half time. Sean O’Mahony, Cathal Whooley and Jack Mehmet battled hard at midfield sending some great ball into Kevin Reynolds and Riain Harden who both had great performances in the forward line. Our U6’s also played Carraig na bhFear on the same evening as our 7s and 8s in a series of mini-games at White’s Cross. This was a first ‘competitive’ game for many of these young players and they acquitted themselves really well.
