Our Under 21 footballers had ideal preparations for their 2005 championship with a win over Carraig Na bhFear in a challenge game on a 2-6 to 0-8 score-line. They followed this victory up with a very impressive performance against Passage in the Quarter-Final Championship clash at Ballinure. Led on by captain Roy O Driscoll, who was alternating the captaincy with twin-brother Pat, White’s Cross won out on a 3-10 to 2-5 score-line. Here a great goal from mid-fielder Brian O Sullivan, who ghosted through the Passage defence from middle of the park to score, after 20 minutes set up the White’s Cross lads for victory. However it was a tighter game than the score-line suggests and it was only in the last 15 minutes that our lads really shrugged off a gallant Passage battle. Other big performers on this night were the Murnane brothers Eoin and Breandain, Victor O Sullivan, Brian Conway and Alfie McEvoy.
This set our lads up for a semi-final clash with Brian Dillons seven days later at City Division headquaters, Ballinlough. Here it was hard to believe that it was the same White’s Cross team that was performing as they never got going and lost out by two points to the boys in blue. After the fine display a week previous, it was disappointing that our lads failed to do themselves justice, as many of this team will not be under-age next year and they had been successful at minor level three years previous. However on the night we could not get the better of Dillons and we wish them well in their final joust against Bishopstown.
