White’s Cross under 11 hurlers, along with their counterparts from Carraig Na Bhfear played their first hurling game together as a group today (March 8th) under the St. Colmcille’s banner when they took on Nemo Rangers in their Trabeg venue. The heavy downpours that were persistent earlier in the morning, thankfully had dried up by time the 13:00 throw-in had come around. Still, the pitch remained heavy and was not conducive for free-flowing hurling.

Coaches Ricky Forde and Donal Looney were looking for the players to work hard and gel as a group. Initially the group was split and they played two 9-a-side blitz style games. The spoils were divided here with the hosts and visitors taking one-win-each.
For the final half hour, the sides played out one game on a full-sized pitch. As it was a challenge game, all players took part (ie no subs) hence it ended up being an 18-a-side game. The game was closely fought throughout but it was St. Colmcille’s that had the edge at the end winning 4-02 to 3-01. RJ Whitley scored the bulk of the scores on this occasion but there were strong performers throughout the team with the following 18 players all making their contributions to this winning start
Cillian Buckley, Liam O’Donovan, Ollie Roche, Brody Forde, Billy Coughlan, Ben Kennefick, Donncha Harte, Darragh McSweeney, Darragh Quinlan, Eoin Sheehan, Ryan McCarthy, Zach Forde, Michael Looney, Daniel Cotter Zen Barry, Cayden Ramsey, Isaac Duhig, RJ Whitey
