The under 11 Footballers played their first football game of the year and their first ever with their friends from Carraig Na Bhfear (under the St. Colmcille’s flag). After three consecutive hurling games, the side visited the East Cork hurling stronghold of Killeagh to take on the local side in a football game. This month is definitely proving to be the March of many weathers. After a dry spell, one or two very warm days, a yellow rain warning last night, today we had to contend with a gale force wind. And it is very hard to ignore the overbearing impact that the wind had on the play this afternoon.
We played two 9-a-side blitz games. For one half of each game, we completely dominated with Zach Forde, RJ Whitley, Michael Looney again dominating the scoring with the outstanding Zen Barry, Luke Hegarty and Donncha Harte doing their best to set them up; whilst also contributing on the scoresheet themselves.
For the other half, however, we very much under the cosh from a very competent home side. Our lads stood up to the challenge with Eoin Sheehan and Ben Kennefick, in particular, resolute in their defensive efforts today. However, defending against such elements is a whole-team effort and is lead by the workrate of forwards such as Ray Healy, Ryan McCarthy and Isaac Duhig.
This team will play their first competitive game shortly (currently scheduled for April 10th). And while overall we probably did win this game, the target for this group for now is to work together, develop their skills and sharpness. Today it was great to see all the lads gel and contribute positively. The following players played today:
Cillian Buckley, Ben O’Leary, Eoin Sheehan, Brody Forde, Liam O’Donovan, Darragh McSweeney, Ben Kennefick, Zen Barry, Daniel Cotter, Richie O’Brien, Ray Healy, RJ Whitely, Zach Forde, Donncha Harte, Luke Hegarty, Michael Looney, Ryan McCarthy, Isaac Duhig
