The 4th of February marked a first training session for White’s Cross and Carraig Na Bhfear under 11 boys, together, under the St Colmcille’s banner! A total of 23 players attended along with coaches Barry Hegarty, Emmet McCarthy, Ricky Forde and Donal Looney. Barry kicked things off with fun ‘get-to-know-you’ style game before being splitting the group into two teams where they played competitive 11/12 a side games in both hurling and football.
Typically, under the current arrangement, teams do not get together until under 12. However, it was felt by both sets if mentors, given the talent available in the squad, that they would benefit by coming together a year earlier.
The aforementioned coaches have put in a lot of work thus far in bringing the group together and have exciting plans for the year(s) ahead to make sure the lads enjoy it, push themselves and get the most benefit possible from being involved in a group with such strong playing numbers!
