White’s Cross 2 – 13 Blackrock 2 – 15

White’s Cross lost narrowly to Blackrock in this hurling league tie played in White’s Cross. Blackrock opened the scoring from their very impressive wing forward who would score a total of nine points and cause White’s Cross all sorts of problems throughout the evening.

Ruairi Quinlan, who was back on free-taking duty in the absence of Eddie Coughlan, equalised from a place ball. Great work by Richie Sherlock in winning a dirty ball from the ruck and lay it off to the aforementioned Quinlan, who in turn, fed the ball to the unmarked Brendan Quaine who buried the ball low into the corner of the net to give White’s Cross a big boost in the fifth minute. To be fair, it was the away side that responded better and they dominated the remainder of the first half. However, it was not until the last few minutes of the half that they reflected their dominance on the scoreboard when they added two very late goals. They lead at half time on a scoreline of 2-10 to 1-05.

White’s Cross had a big mountain to climb in the second half. They did set about closing the gap and Harry Coughlan, Conor Buckley (introduced as a sub) and Ruairi Quinlan all got early scores to give the home side hope. They had a massive opportunity to close the gap mid way through the half but Ruairi Quinlan had his penalty saved by the Blackrock net-minder. Conor Buckley did score a penalty goal with the lost shot of the game to reduce the gap to two points at end.
