White’s Cross remain undefeated in the junior hurling league following this closely fought draw in a blustery White’s Cross pitch this morning. Though the sun was shining, the swirling wind made it difficult for players on both sides to judge with many shots tailing-off throughout the hour.

White’s Cross did open the scoring in the 2nd minute with a Conor Buckley pointed free; something he repeated 4 minutes later to put his side two up. Glen Rovers got their first point of the game a minute later with a score from play and they also followed up with another from play to equalise in the 10th minute. Max Philpott (selected at corner back) found himself deep in the opposing half to get the first point from play for the home side in the 11th minute. Three more points from play in the final ten minutes of the first half from James Cussen, PJ O’Donovan and Patrick Harrington put the Cross three points up approaching the short whistle; their biggest lead. However, as they did throughout the game, the Blackpool side reeled their opponents back in and two points from them just before the interval left the minimum between the sides 0-07 to 0-06.
The Glen got the first two scores of the second period to give them the lead the first time. Another Conor Buckley free and another Patrick Harrington point from play restored the lead by the 10th minute as the course of the second half was taking shape. The Glen would take the lead again with the next two points before Conor Buckley (free) and John McElhinney restored the lead by the 20th minute. The final ten minutes were frantic. White’s Cross held a narrow lead for most of the half with the Glen opting, unnecessarily from their perspective, for goals, However, thanks to Shane Cahill pulling off some fine saves, they were repelled. Dan O’Sullivan in front of him had another fine outing at full back. The Glen did get a point in the final minute with a late scramble to equalise. The probably deserved a share of the league points but from a White’s Cross perspective, we are unbeaten after two games. Given our results last year and the number of injuries, this is very satisfactory.
