St. Colmcille’s 2-18 Kilworth & Araglen Og 2-11

St. Colmcille’s under 16 footballers got back to winning ways following this seven point win over Kilworth & Araglen Og in a game played in glorious sunshine in Carraig Na Bhfear on Wednesday 14th of May. After two wins over Charleville and Liscarroll & Churchtown Gaels, this side had suffered reversals against Kildorrery and Ballycastle Gaels. Understandably then they were a little jittery in the opening exchanges.  Though Charlie Horgan scored a point from play, the visitors hit 1-02 and lead by four points after seven minutes. Fachtna Kelleher got two points to settle Colmcille’s who were beginning to find their groove now.

Tom O’Sullivan, Dillon Manley and Cathal Geaney were making strong runs and creating scoring opportunities for a full-forward line of Evan O’Leary, Cillian Burns and Darragh O’Driscoll.  One of these runs lead to O’Driscoll getting the first goal for his side; which gave them the lead for the first time in the game.  Though , Kilworth/Araglen would hit back with an equalizing goal in the 21st minute, it did not knock Colmcille’s from their rhythm. Points from Sam Dunne, Cathal Geaney and Evan O’Leary’s goal ensured that Colmcille’s would lead at half time by four points.

Six different players scored from play in a very impressive first half showing. The second half though saw Fachtna Kelleher and Evan O’Leary take over the scoring. Kelleher gave an exhibition with eleven points to his name overall (nine from play). Evan O’Leary helped himself to a very impressive 1-04. These scoring feats ensured their side pulled well clear in the second period.  The North Cork side, to their credit, never gave up. They battled to the end and kicked the three of the last four points. In the end though Colmcille’s were full value for their seven point win.
