St. Colmcilles 2 – 08 St. Michaels 1 – 07

There was late drama in Carraig Na Bhfear GAA grounds on Wednesday evening when the home side passed a stern test against St. Michael’s in their minor football league clash. A first half goal from Adam O Halloran plus a brace of points from Bobby O Riordan helped St. Colmcille’s into a commanding 1-04 to 0-02 lead at the short whistle. Cian Ryan and Sean Whelan were the other scorers in this half.

When Whelan added to his tally after Shane Buckley opened the second half scoring our lead was up to 7 points – a commanding position. However between the 12th and 27th minute the visitors outscored us 1-05 to one point – that score coming from Joe Dunphy, after another of his fine leaps to win clean possession. With the game level heading into the final minutes it was tense in Carraig! However after a well worked move Shane Buckley showed a cool head to slot over and give us the most slender of leads again. Referee Michael Carey’s watch showed time for another play and Mark O’Keeffe rose highest to win the resultant kick out. O’Keeffe some how managed to spot that James Buckley had been left free inside by a Michael’s defence surging forward in search of a late equaliser. O Keeffe launched a high ball in and Buckley did well to gather because it did look like it might by-pass him and go wide. However James, once he had it in his grasp, did superbly to slot home low to the right of the advancing keeper, finally settling this result
