St. Colmcille's 1-07 Glenville 1-07

St. Colmcille’s Under 12 footballers battled to an entertaining 1-07 apiece draw with Glenville in the Rebel Óg East Under 12 Group 4 Football League in Glenville tonight.

This was a game that ebbed and flowed from start to finish, with very little separating the two sides throughout. Glenville made the better start and, despite some good passages of play from Colmcille’s, went in at the break with a slender 0-06 to 0-05 advantage.

Zen Barry was in excellent form from placed balls, converting two frees, while Sam Moloney added a fine point from play which was fitting as he was arguably the outstanding player on view tonight. Darragh McSweeney also split the posts from a free, with Ted Pierce marking his return to action after almost a year away with a point from a free. His return was a very welcome addition to the squad.

Colmcille’s came flying out of the blocks after the interval. Ryan McCarthy and Daniel Cotter both pointed from play, with Daniel making a particularly impressive contribution after switching from goalkeeper to outfield for the second half.

The game then really came to life. Ryan McCarthy put Colmcille’s in front when he got the final touch after a goalmouth scramble. Glenville responded with a goal of their own soon afterwards, setting up a tense finish.

Both teams pushed for the winner, but neither could find the decisive score. In the end, 1-07 apiece was probably a fair reflection of a very competitive and enjoyable contest.
