By time this match ended in Carraig Na Bhfear last Thursday night (24th of April), we were in near darkness. There were spectators sheltering in their cars on the bank with their lights on while the players on the field played in the pouring rain with rapidly fading visibility. The late (1930) start time and the rain did not help. Unfortunately, when the referee did blow his final whistle it was the Cloyne/Russell Rovers combination that ended up winning on a 2-03 to 1-04 scoreline.
However, considering that they lead 2-02 to 0-02 at the break, it was a case of very much hanging on for the victory. The second half belonged to the home side. Ayo Osunboyede had a great game and drove at the Colman’s defence at any chance he could and created many scoring opportunities. For the first quarter most of these were missed or moves broke down at the last minute. Ronan Glavey got the first score of the second half after fifteen minutes. Joseph Crowley then got a goal to put two points between the sides. Ronan Glavey tapped over a late free to leave the minimum between the sides. It was all Colmcille’s. Corey Forde and Ruairi Harte at the back were giving nothing away. The home side were pushing hard for a winning goal when eventually the visitors broke for their only score of the game. There was not enough time for St. Colmcille’s to react on this occasion and we ended up losing by two points
