St Colmcille’s U12 footballers were defeated by Glanmire in the Rebel Óg East Under 12 Group 2 Football League Final at Glenville on Saturday.
Colmcille’s opened the scoring with a point from play by Zach Forde, but Glanmire gradually took control of the first half. They added five points, including scores from Zac O’Leary, George Rafter and Sam Torpey, to lead 0-5 to 0-1 at half time.
Glanmire continued to apply pressure after the restart and extended their advantage with two goals in the opening five minutes of the second half. Fionn Mullane and Tadhg Brannigan found the net to put Glanmire firmly in control.
To their credit, the Colmcille’s players continued to battle and finished the game strongly. Donncha Harte opened the second-half scoring for Colmcille’s before Michael Looney added another point. Zach Forde converted a free, while Harte added another point from play late on.
Glanmire finished with two further points to complete a 2-8 to 0-5 victory.
While the result was disappointing for Colmcille’s, the players can take great credit for their efforts throughout the game and for reaching the Group 2 final. Glanmire were the better team on the day, and we congratulate them on their victory.
