St. Colmcille’s Under-15s made it two wins in four days as they followed up their Bank Holiday hurling success with a commanding football display at Na Piarsaigh on Wednesday.
The visitors were slow out of the blocks and Na Piarsaigh had early chances, fortunately spurning three gilt‑edged goal opportunities. St. Colmcille’s steadied, opening the scoring seven minutes in and rattling off three points in quick succession.
The second quarter proved decisive — between the 21st minute and half‑time St. Colmcille’s went on a purple patch, adding two piledriver goals and two points with Sam Dunne grabbing both goals to give his side a healthy interval lead.
After the break the lads maintained control. A resolute defensive performance from Cian Barry, Michael Gubbins, Ethan Roche, Eamonn Tattan and Oisín Arrigan kept Na Piarsaigh at bay, while Cathal Geaney’s tireless running and athleticism caused constant problems for the hosts. Donncha Hickey and Tadhg Harden also marshalled the middle of the park superbly.
Na Piarsaigh did break through for a late goal, but it arrived too late to change the result. St. Colmcille’s now march on to a quarter-final meeting with Ballinhassig.
