St Colman’s claimed the Rebel Óg East U16 Division 1 Football Shield with an impressive four-point win over St Colmcille’s in a highly competitive final on Sunday.

Colmcille’s opened the scoring through Cathal Geaney, but the sides traded points during an evenly matched first quarter. St Colman’s forwards were lively throughout, and points from Darragh Collins, Dan Sheehan and Sam Morris helped them edge in front. The key moment of the half arrived in the 24th minute when St Colman’s number Daniel Walsh struck for a crucial goal, sending his side into the break 1-06 to 0-06 ahead.

The second half began in dramatic fashion as Darragh Cahill hit Colman’s second goal within 30 seconds of the restart, stretching the lead to seven. Colmcille’s responded with determination, winning a series of turnovers and relying heavily on the accuracy of Fachtna Kelleher. The centre-forward delivered an outstanding personal tally of 0-8, including three frees, to keep his team within touching distance. Despite Colmcille’s strong finish, St Colman’s retained their composure.
