The St Colmcilles minor hurlers ensured progression to the hurling league final with an easy victory over neighbours Whitechurch in a game played in Carraig Na Bhfear on Wednesday 26t of April. The first half was all one way traffic. Evan Quaine scored an early goal while all the other forwards (Rob Sheehan, Alex Flynn, Cian Barry, Sean Delaney and Sean Whelan) manged to get a score from play in the first half. This was the most pleasing aspect to have such a spread of scorers particulary so given that Bill Ryan, Micheal Murphy and Evan Flynn, three players that contribute significantly to the team’s scoring, were all absent for one reason or another. At half-time the score read 1-12 to 0-04.
Rob Sheehan scored his sides’ second goal of the game after 7 second half minutes. Whitechurch kept battling to their credit and added some points to keep the score looking respectable from their point of view. With the game over as a contest, some of the play from Colmcilles did become very sloppy and they did not trouble the scoreboard as much in the second period. Jack Harte did get a goal in the 22nd minute to add further gloss to a comprehensive victory.
