St Colmcille’s Under 12s made a trip to the seaside town of Youghal on a beautiful Monday evening where they were up against an unbeaten Youghal side in Round 4 of the league.
The seasiders showed their strength in the opening half and carved our defence open on two occasions to raise green flags. Timely turnovers from Noah O Sullivan and Brendan Leahy prevented them extending their lead at this juncture. The visitors got a big boost when Sam O Reilly cooly slotted home a penalty as it left the scoreline reading right back 2-03 to 1-02 at the short whistle.
Young Alex Lynam took over net-minding duties in the second half and he pulled off three great saves to keep his side in the game. At the other end Cárthach Kelleher knocked over points from both frees and from play and when James Linehan scored another we had four points on the trot and the sides were level.
However our opponents did eventually show why they are undefeated and managed to turn the tide in their favour with one inspirational point from well out on the wing. Colmcille’s continued to work hard with some really strong performances from Cillian Manley, now at midfield, David Lynch and Harry Horgan. Despite this though, in the end the score was 2- 06 to 1-06; our lads coming up short but lots of positives from the performance.
