White’s Cross 2 – 02 Ballinascarthy 2 – 06

Balinascarthy started this county final game in Bandon the stronger and were first on the scoreboard with a well taken 65. At half time the score was 2 points to no score in favour of Balinascarthy. Not letting the occasion get to them.

White’s Cross rallied well in the second half and when Ciara O’Callaghan hit the back of the net from a 65, the large White’s Cross crowd that headed for Bandon were jumping for joy. The forwards were now getting into the game with Maria Hayes, Sadie Coughlan and Keelin Sneedon getting on more ball and unlucky not to get on the score sheet. Their hard work led to another 65 where again Ciara O’Callaghan converted her second goal of the game and White’s Cross were right back in it.

On the few occasions that Balinascarthy managed to get the ball down to their forward line in the second half, Sophie Erangey was on hand and gave a masterclass display at centre back. Balinascarthy dug deep and when Ciara O’Callaghan saw her effort hit the cross bar, Balinascarthy went down field and secured their second goal of the day. White’s Cross continued to battle hard with Ciara O’Callaghan adding another well taken point matching 1 additional point for Balinascarthy. With the score at 2:3 to 2:1 in favour of Balinascarthy, we ran out of time and much to the heart break of the girls, the final whistle was blown. The game ended 2:6 to 2:2 as a point is worth 2 at this age group.
