The St. Colmcille’s Under 15 side were in action in the North Cork football championship shield semi-final against Buttevant on a miserable night for football (or any sport for that matter)! After a very shaky start and going behind by 2 points, Colmcilles got into the game and a well worked goal by Alex Flynn got his side up and running.
Another goal by Dylan Bowen and and some great point taking by Bowen and Flynn saw the winners stretch their lead by 2-03 to 0-02 after 15 minutes. Goals by Darragh McGuire and Shane Harrington followed and further points by Flynn, Bowen, Oliver Crowley, Oscar O’Connell, Shane Harrington and Micheal Leahy meant St. Colmcille’s went in at half time with a commanding lead of 4-9 to 0-3. That’s not to say the Buttevant didn’t have chances but some excellent defending from Jack Harte, Charlie O’ Callaghan, Darragh Cashman, Evan Quain and the tireless running by Adam O’Connor kept them at bay.
The second half started brightly with well taken points by Flynn and Bowen. Subs introduced at half time , Cian Dunne and Billy Cambridge were very influential in the early part of the second half and others introduced into the game , Ciaran Ryan, Joe Arrigan and Jamie Murphy made excellent contributions with Murphy scoring a cracking goal with 10 minutes to go. As the scoreline suggests, St Colmcille’s ran out commanding winners.
