The junior B footballers made it three wins from three in their league and now sit proudly top of the table. White’s Cross tore into this game. Once again Stephen Whooley was a real live wire and a constant torn in the side of the Bishopstown defence. On the other wing Robert Troy was a similar threat. Both of these players combined in a great move and it was Whooley that clinically dispatched the ball to the back of the Town net. Robert Troy shortly after got the score that his performance deserved with a well taken point. It was not all Whooley and Troy however as all six forwards got on the scoreboard in the first half. White’s Cross lead by five points at half time on a score of 1-07 to 0-05.
Bishopstown were strong through the middle and posed White’s Cross a lot of problems throughout and settled the better in the second half. This battle in the middle of the field was the key to winning this game. The fact that the two Quinlan brothers, Seamus and Cathal, eventually got the better in this was crucial to the victory for White’s Cross. Both were outstanding throughout and made life very uncomfortable for the Bishopstown duo who did not have the stamina at the end to stay the pace with the Quinlan duo.
James Murphy got the key second half scores to see out the victory for White’s Cross after Bishopstown got a late goal to make things very uncomfortable for the eventual winners. It did not have to be like this as White’s Cross saw three goal-bound efforts rebound off the crossbar in this half. Nonetheless the late scare aside, White’s Cross thoroughly deserved their victory and are now well placed to push on in this league.
