The opening hurling game of the season was played in glorious sunshine at Pairc Briain Diolounaigh on Sunday morning last 13th of June. The reigning City Division champions would certainly have been favourites and opened with the first five scores of the game. Good pressure from the White’s Cross backs though did ensure that they did not have things all their own way. When Donncha Murnane got two points from play within one minute of each other in the third quarter following an opening point from Joe Cashman, White’s Cross started to believe in themselves and were very much in the game. At half time there were 6 point between the sides as Dillon lead 0-09 to 0-03. Cormac Dervan reduced that to five with the first score of the second period. This was as good as it got though for White’s Cross. For the remainder of the half, Dillons picked off their scores with White’s Cross unable to reply. Shane O’Leary, second half substitute, added a fine score at the end of the game which his performance deserved. Though the favourites won the game was expected, White’s Cross can take plenty of positives from the game and will look to pick up wins elsewhere as the league progresses
