When St. Colman’s struck for two fine goals within two minutes and only two minutes remaining, to draw level on the scoreline, it looked as though there would only be one winner in this highly entertaining Under 13 league clash, played in White’s Cross on Tuesday evening.St. Colmcille’s had led throughout, with their well timed goals in each half giving them a great buffer.
The pace and energy in the game, where both sides attacked at every opportunity, made this a great spectacle for the nice-sized crowd that watched on. St. Colman’s certainly had their chances but our defenders ensured they were kicking under pressure every time and so their wide tally mounted. However when the Cloyne and Russell Rovers amalgamation pounced for their pair of goals it looked like our lads could hold out no more and the East Cork combination would kick on for a hard fought win.
This St. Colmcille’s U13 side showed great character however, not to wilt after these setbacks – instead they worked the ball up the field and Alex Flynn rifled home a goal to ensure a home-team victory. This was without doubt the best performance to date from this St. Colmcille’s team and it was fitting that the performance was good enough to get victory on the night.Well done to the 19 lads that all played their part in a fantastic hour of football.
