The Junior A football team played a challenge game away to Na Piarsaigh on Saturday evening last (08th August). Despite a very positive opening half hour after which we lead by 2-03 to 0-05, we went down by two points. Played in very warm conditions, it was, nonetheless, a very good game of football. Killian Ryan opened the scoring for us with a point before Sean Kelly got his fourth goal in three games. The same player got another point before Billy O’Hara also continued his goal-scoring run having previously netted against Beal Atha an Ghaoiridh. Conor Buckley got a point from a free which accounted for all the scores in the first half.
The third quarter saw the home side take control of the game. They got the opening two points of before Billy O’Hara replied for White’s Cross. Na Piarsaigh then got their only goal putting the ball past White’s Cross goalkeeper Ruairi Murnane who had a fine game throughout. They also got the next two points which saw them lead 1-09 to 2-04. In this quarter they turned a four point deficit into a two point lead. They managed to hold this lead until the end as both sides swapped five points each in a high-scoring final quarter. White’s Cross will be disappointed by the performance in the third quarter and the fact that they missed eleven chances over the hour. However, it was a good game of football and it is best to lose now than in the first round of the championship
