St. Colmcilles 6 – 13 Nemo Rangers 2 – 05

Two first half goals from live-wire Sean Delaney set the foundation for this impressive victory for St. Colmcille’s on Friday evening last (28th August) in Carraig na bhFear. These goals plus a brace of points from Mícheál Murphy, and points also from Billy Ryan, John Barry and Cian Ryan saw our lads lead by 2-5 to 1-4 at half-time.

The game was very much in the balance at this juncture, however, the travelling party from Turner’s Cross and its environs could not have known what was going to hit them as Aidan Bowen’s charges blew them open time and again with bouts of superb play in the second period. Midfielder Sean Whelan opened the scoring after the break with the first two points of the half. The aforementioned Micheál Murphy bagged a hatrick of goals in this second period (plus two more points). Cian Ryan also goaled while his name-sake Billy also added to his first half tally raising another white flag, while Seán Delaney knocked over three points, all feeding into an impressive haul of six goals and thirteen points.

That all said this win was not based on the work of the scorers alone – Adam O Halloran was back from injury, and back to his best, between the sticks; Caolan Garde and Joe Dunphy dominated in defence while Evan Flynn dictated matters from the pivotal centre back position. Ronan Healy also had another fine outing, while Dylan McDonnell was another to impress in the forwards.

This all sets up a mouth watering final against Kiltha Óg who had a big victory against Na Piarsaigh in the other semi final also played on Friday evening. Our combination of White’s Cross and Carraig na bhFear previously met this combination of Castlemartyr and Dungourney in the league and the sides could not be separated after an epic game of hurling a few short weeks ago. Here’s to more of the same high standards of hurling in the final. This final will take place on Saturday morning in Castlemartyr
