St. Colmcille’s 4 – 11 Kiltha Óg 0 – 08

A goal from distance by Sean Whelan soon after the second half restart killed off this encounter as a contest, as it gave an energetic St. Colmcille’s outfit a three goal cushion. Adam Bowen netted twice in the first half to give our lads a 2-5 to 0-5 lead at the short whistle.

This was a hugely satisfying performance against the Castlemartyr and Dungourney amalgamation, but the size of this victory had as much to do with our defence as our attack. Indeed Caelan Garde at corner back put in a massive shift, and with Aidan Docherty rock solid at number three, Kiltha attacks were thwarted time and again. Outside them John Barry and Sean O Connell worked tirelessly throughout – indeed O Connell scored the first and last points to highlight his work rate from start to finish, with Barry also getting on the scoresheet. Adam Bowen ended up with a hatrick of goals, while Mícheál Murphy who made some fine saves in the first half as goalkeeper switched to full forward for the second half and raised the white flag on a couple of occasions. The standard of play did drop in the final quarter as the game petered out as a contest but nonetheless it was another fine win for St. Colmcille’s
