St Colmcille’s 4 – 02 Castlelyons 6 – 07

A slow start proved to be costly in the opening round of the under 12 hurling championship played on Monday night last (July 20th) in Castlelyons. The home side built up a big lead that put them in a winning position at half-time; leading 3-05 to 0-01. However a few positional changes including putting Jack Harte to full-back, Cian Dunne to centre-back and captain Ciarán Ryan to midfield, plus the introduction of Martin Cotter and Dillon Manley led to a complete transformation in the second half performance from Colmcilles. It was such a difference to the first half as each one of the lads upped their work rate considerably. Towards the end this effort took its toll and Castlelyons finished with two fine goals to gain a deserved victory. However, the St. Colmcille’s team can take massive learnings from the outing, and their coaches will be very satisfied that they have a bunch of lads who are willing to work hard when the going gets toughest. That is a great trait in any individual and any team, be it on or off the field
