Our under 16 footballers advance to a semi-final after finishing top of their league group. In deteriorating weather conditions on Monday evening (24th August), they earned victory in Aghada on a score-line of 0-15 to 1-8.
We started brightly with three early points, but the concession of a goal direct from a 45 brought our hosts back into the game. The game was level at half-time (0-8 to 1-5), with Shane Daly Rob Docherty (3 frees) and Brendan Quaine getting the remaing Colmcilles scores in the first half. The game was tight in the second half too and though Colmcilles extended their lead it took goalie John Barry to make a point blank save in the final minutes to safeguard victory. Our semi-final opponents will be decided in mid-September, so this group can be satisfied with a job well done so far but will look forward to challenging for silver-ware.
