Craig Hughes scored a late goal to rescue a point in this under 12 hurling league matched played in a scorched Tank Field venue at midday on Saturday last. This was an energy sapping game played by two committed sides. White’s Cross dominated the first half of the game but will have been disappointed to only lead by two points at half time on a score of 1-02 to 1-00. Brian Dillons started the second half very well and scored two early goals to put them into the lead for the first time. White’s Cross were still dominating possession but were also amassing the wides which were proving frustrating. A speculative ball into the full forward line, that again looked to be going wide only for an excellent block by Cathal Brother who in turn laid into the path of Charlie O’Callaghan for a neat finish brought White’s Cross level. This should have given White’s Cross the impetus to go on and win the game. However, another Dillons goal with 2minutes to go seemed to hand the home side certain victory. That was until the aforementioned Hughes’s late strike. White’s Cross did have one final chance to win the game but couldn’t take it and had to settle for a share of the spoils.
