The White’s Cross under 14 footballers made it two wins out of two when they beat local rivals Carraig Na Bhfear by 12 points on Thursday 29th of March in Carraig Na Bhfear. Despite a number of absentees, the winners quickly got into their stride from the very first whistle in Some fine points were notched from Luke Kelleher and three from the impressive Brendan Quain. The pick of the scores in the opening period though was a fine solo effort fromDaniel O’Keeffe made a burst through the middle, beating a number of opponents to pick off a fine point.
The home team were struggling to get a foothold in this match. Any attempt at goal was repelled by strong defensive play from the likes of Mark O’Keeffe, Ethan Ryan & Charlie Browne. The key score in the first half followed good interplay among our forwards whenPatrick Harrington curled the ball high into the net for great goal. Though Carrig replied with a goal shortly after, it was White’s Cross who lead at the interval on a score 1-05 to 1-01.
The second half, despite heavy downpours, we continued to followed a similar patter to the first half. Brendan Quain, Luke Kelleher & Eddie Coughlan kicked some fine points for the winners. Luke Murphy & Eli Hurley ensured that Carrig continued to find scores hard to come by while half-time sub goalie, Sean Delaney impressed behind them with a number of fine saves. Shane Buckley put the result beyond any doubt, with a goal shortly after his introduction. Final score was an impressive tally of 2-16 to Carrig’s 3-01.
