Ballinlough was a familiar setting as these two teams met each other in championship hurling for the fifth time in three years. Apart from a draw in last year’s county semi-final, White’s Cross had come out on top on each occasion. And so it proved to be the case again as they fought to a three point win for over their south-side rivals. Conor Buckley was, once again, unerring from frees over the hour while his namesake Edwin Buckley, back playing hurling this year, also contributed with a couple of scores from play. White’s Cross could have made this a more comfortable victory but for the concession of a goal with ten minutes to go which only left the minimum between the sides. Strong defensive play from Robert McElhinney, Murt Kelleher and Derek O’Connor ensured that the Lough didn’t manage to level the game and White’s Cross held on for victory. Up next is a county quarter final against a fancied Belgooly side on Tuesday next, 3rd of July.
