White’s Cross 1 – 08 Whitechurch 0 – 09

With our Junior A footballers getting a bye in the opening round of their 2015 league it was our second string had the distinction of playing the opening competitive game of the new season. Here they were pitted against our near neighbours Whitechurch who they had also played as recently as December 21st last in the final game of 2014 – the Seandún Cup Final. In today’s encounter our lads started very brightly but showing all the signs of it being the first game in a while, struggled to find the target and one felt a series of wides could prove very costly for the Cross. At half time for all our dominance the scoreline read 3 points apiece. However White’s Cross got the ideal start to the second with a fine goal strike from Micheal Brosnan and also tacked on an early point to surge 4 ahead. Whitechurch whittled away at this lead once again and had drawn level with 5 minutes remaining and it looked as though they had all the momentum. However through a nice blend of youth and experience White’s Cross finished the stronger pegging on 2 late points. Next up is an away game to Passage next Sunday afternoon while our A team are away to St. Nicks that morning.
