White’s Cross 1 – 10 Nemo Rangers 1 – 09

It was the second White’s Cross junior outfit that commenced formal competitions for the 2011 season on Sunday, February 6th with a fixture versus Nemo Rangers in Trabeg.

The cobwebs accumulated over the close-season were hampering our lads early on as Nemo raced into a four point lead.  Eventually the Cross settled, with Alfie McEvoy showing very impressively at full-forward.  Outside him Darragh Keane also began to exert a big influence on the game, and scored a goal and two points of the White’s Cross tally.

Elsewhere Kevin Fennessy, George Osborne and Padraig Murnane all dominated their opponents and helped us grind out a one point victory, 1:10 to 1:9.

A win away to Nemo is always a good victory and the ideal tonic to kick-off 2011.  One week later however, at home to Na Piarsaigh, our lads were reminded they would not be having all things their own way for the new season, and paid the price for some wayward shooting, losing out 12 points to 6, in another fine game of football.
