Our first set of Junior players got their league campaign off to a winning start with victory over near neighbours Rathpeacon. In a keenly fought contest early goals from the two corner-forwards Paul O Sullivan and Conor Kelleher, gave White’s Cross an early cushion. Outside them good work from Paddy O Brien, John Drummy, John Meade, Seanie Murnane and James Cooney all kept pressure on the opposition in Blue. White’s Cross won out on a score-line of 2-10 to 1-6.
One week later, this team found the going much tougher against a young St. Michael’s side. While White’s Cross led by 9 points to 4 at the short whistle they were fortunate to hold out in the end for a draw, on a scoreline of 11 points each. Positives from this encounter included the performances of Murt Kelleher, Kevin Buckley, Peter O Driscoll and Seanie Gorman, as well as a substitute appearance from Donnacha Murnane. Donnacha was making his first appearance to competitive action in over 12 months having recovered from a serious knee injury.
