A little bit of history was made at this match as it had been nine years since White’s Cross last fielded a hurling team. To the match itself, it was clear from the outset that Inniscarra had the more hurling done. They dominated the opening exchanges and picked off a number of fine scores. Given the amount of possession enjoyed by Inniscarra in this period, it was no surprise that White’s Cross’ most prominent players were full-back Jack O’Driscoll and goal-keeper Dean Smith.
It was not all one-way traffic for long and White’s Cross soon got to grips with the pace of the game. Adam Bransfield and Timmy Crowley drove them on from the back and with Tadgh Murphy and Tony O Keeffe keeping the ball moving in the half-forward line, the inside forwards were given greater amounts of possession. This paid dividends with well taken goals by Cian O Connell and Fergal Reid. For a while it looked like White’s Cross would go on to win the game but a few late goals by a well-drilled Inniscarra outfit gave White’s Cross no chance to come back into the game
