The 2006 season is now in full swing for all the adult White’s Cross teams. The Junior A football at the time of print have played the opening two rounds of their league. The opening round saw us beat St. Michaels on a score-line of 1-11 to 0-5. The Blackrock side, who were seeking compensation for a 2005 championship semi-final defeat to us, had no answer to Donnacha Murnane who was in inspirational form kicking over 6 points. However the following Sunday we came up a ‘cropper’ to Douglas who defeated us 1-10 to 0-9. Next up in the league are Brian Dillons and Na Piarsaigh, the latter being the side who defeated us in the 2005 championship final.
Our second junior sides have won one game, drawn one and lost one in their 2006 campaign in the Junior B league. We defeated Douglas with Martin Kelleher guiding the team on from his mid-field berth. One week later we had a 1-5 to 0-8 draw with Nemo Rangers, with Don O Neill scoring a fine goal. However the Barrs beat us 1-9 to 0-9 in our most recent encounter, despite the best efforts of Aidan Harte, William Casey and Eoghan Kelleher.
