However in our opening clash a week earlier we had a convincing win over near-neighbours Rathpeacon. The lads in Blue, making their first appearance at this grade in over ten years, made an excellent start and led by 1-1 to 0-0 after seven minutes. However the White’s Cross lads did not panic and eased their way back into the game with a couple of frees before Murt Kelleher billowed the net for a fine goal, after 17 minutes, to give White’s Cross a lead they would not relinquish again. Conor Buckley, Jonathan Kenneally and Conor Kelleher also added points before the break. In the second half further goals, including a second from Murt Kelleher, guided White’s Cross to a 3-9 to 1-3 victory. Next up for this outfit are away ties to Passage, which will act as a dress-rehearsal for the Championship, and Mayfield.
