Our under 10 hurlers took part in the Mayfield annual under 10 competition On Saturday 12th of October. Lead in in a parade by a piper and after the playing of the national anthem, White’s Cross took on St. Vincents in their opening group game and played extremely well to record a big win. In game two, we came up against Cashel King Cormacs. The Tipperary outfit brought a big panel with them. We played well but ultimately came up short against the eventual winners of the tournament.
There was plenty on the line in the final game against Ballygarvan; with the winner qualifying for the cup competition knock-out phase with the loser heading for the shield competition. With the pressure on, the White’s Cross lads rose to the occasion and proved too strong for the side from the South East.
In the semi-final we played Carraig Na Bhfear. This game was very closely fought throughout and we lead for quite a while. Alas the concession of two reasonably soft goals proved to be costly as this is what ultimately separated the sides in a game that could have gone either way. This ended our interest in the competition for the day. However, the lads proved themselves to be as strong as any of the other teams taking part. Credit also to coaches Donal Looney and Barry Hegarty for the effort that they put in with squad yesterday and all season long.
