White’s Cross GAA Juvenile Club recently held their end-of-year celebration and awards evening at the Vienna Woods Hotel. This night is one set aside to acknowledge, salute and publicly thank the players, teams, coaches, parents/guardians & supporters in the Club. Guest of honour on the evening was Cork hurling stalwart Tom Kenny….
In his address to the very large gathering, juvenile chairperson Mike O Flynn thanked all the groups of people who had made 2013 such a successful one for the club, both on and off the field. As well as the visual improvements to the club grounds, including the erection of the hurling wall and the walkway, there were many other achievements that Mike reported on. A particularly proud development has been the setting up of a camogie club within the juvenile set-up and Mike was loud in his praise for the players and coaches alike. Mike also took great pride in reporting of the under 14 hurlers league success, including their final win over Grenagh – our guest-of-honour might not have been particularly impressed with this particular success as it was over his home club!
The evening was to be an end-of-year gathering to reflect on the busy year of activity within the juvenile club across all the various age-groups. However for the under 15 panel this was no night to be sitting back and reflecting on how the year had transpired. Instead for this group of lads this social occasion was sandwiched in between a hectic playing schedule. On the afternoon of the function, these lads had played the County Football Semi-Final against Granard Gaels in Churchtown, in a game that went to extra-time, before the Cross won out by a single goal, after a massive performance. They are down to contest the County Final the following Saturday against Cill na Martra. However in between, and one night after the end-of-year celebration, they are back out on the playing field again – this time in the hurling league semi-final. Hectic times in the juvenile club…!
