Congratulations Seandún GAA!

White’s Cross GAA would like to congratulate Mick Buckley (chairperson), Eddie Murphy (secretary) and all of the officers at Cumann Luathcleas Gael Seandún, Ceanntar Na Cathrach on reaching the remarkable feat of being 100 years in existence this year.

The last number of weeks has seen the culmination of a lot of hardwork by the committee over the past while with the hosting of a number of celebratory events. Recently, they launched their book Seandún GAA: 100 Years of City Division GAA just in time for the Christmas market. This is an excellent read. White’s Cross GAA has been proud to be part of the City Division since 1981 and much of our history is wrapped up in City Division history and we are proud to have contributed in a small way to the book and to the history of the division.

On Friday night last, the board held its celebratory banquet dinner at the appropriately name Seandún Rooms in Páirc Uí Chaoimh. Nearly 300 people attended on the night. A number of guest speakers such as Jerry Buttimer (Leas-Chathaoirleach Seanad Éireann), Mary McDonnell (Leas-Ard-Mhéara Chathair Chorcaí) , Seán Kelly (MEP agus iar-uachtarán CLCG) and City Division officers. All spoke of the important role that the board has played in the life of the city and the significant role that divisional boards play within the GAA in general.

Ger Canning RTE lead a a panel discussion with Wayne Sherlock (Blackrock), Rob Downey (Glen Rovers) , Seán Powter (Douglas) and former Cork player Dinny Allen (Nemo Rangers). All members of the panel reflected on their highs and lows in 2025, the state of the games in general and their hopes for 2025.

Overall it was a very enjoyable evening. White’s Cross were represented on the night by lotto committee members Anne Reid, Geraldine Twomey, Pauline Hyde, Suzanne Quinlan, Dominic Cahill, Pat O’Callaghan and by Martin Kelleher (treasurer), Murt Kelleher (Junior A Football coach), Pat Reid (Rebel’s Bounty co-ordinator) and Paul O’Donovan (Communication’s officer).
