White’s Cross were well beaten in their second game in the Junior B football championship. This game was a complete dead-rubber as only one team, from the group of three, would qualify for the next round. Both of these teams had lost heavily to Douglas. Not playing the game was not an option as it incurred a large fine. As the game had no relevance, it was played in Nemo Ranger’s Trabeg venue as they had one the toss.
The opening quarter of an hour was a closely fought affair. Nemo Rangers lead at this stage on a score of 2-01 to 1-02 with Brendan Quain getting all of White’s Cross scores. The second quarter of the game decided the outcome. The home side got the next five points before they also added two majors just before the break to leave the score reading 4-06 to 1-02.
With nothing at stake, both sides went through the motions in the second period. Nemo Rangers dominated the scoring but White’s Cross battled away until the end. Brendan Quain was responsible for all his sides scores in this period. There were also impressive performance from his brother’s Evan and Ronan, veterans Derek O’Connor and Richie Sherlock and minor player Oscar O’Connell.
