St. Colmcille’s were well beaten in this under 16 hurling championship tie played in Carraig Na Bhfear in glorious summer sunshine on Monday 11th of August. The opening 20 minutes were competitive. Frees from Charlie Horgan and Ronán Aherne (a superb long range effort) and one point from play from Fachtna Kelleher were keeping the home side in the game. They trailed on a 0-07 to 0-05 scoreline after 20 minutes when Watergrasshill’s superb corner-forward Tadgh McCarthy got the first of his side’s goals.

Cathal Geaney and Fachtna Kelleher replied with points for St. Colmcille’s but they were cancelled out by two from the visitors before the break. This left the score 1-09 to 0-07 at half time. Kelleher got the best of his scores immediately after the break to lay down a marker. However, a well drilled ‘Hill outfit responded immediately with the next goal and three points. This was the winning of the game as they extended their ead to 10 points. They would go onto to add two further goals to add gloss to their win. Colmcille’s kept battling but they were always trailing and well off making a comeback in this game.
Unfortunately this is their second loss of the campaign, having been beaten by Lisgoold also. This effectively ends their interest in the competition with one game remaining.
