In truth our second under 13 hurling team were totally outclassed in this Division 4 hurling game played in a sun-splashed, if slightly breezy, White’s Cross venue on Saturday last. This is an unfortunate result given that they came into the game having beaten Sarsfield and Carrigtwohill in their previous matches. These games were closely fought and could have gone either way. However, on Saturday they came up against a Midleton team that had won their previous games 7-08 to 0-01 and 3-07 to 0-01 (perhaps suggesting maybe that they belong in a higher graded league).
Colmcille’s battled well early on. Alex Lynam played very well in goal and in front of him Jack Foley and Danny Twomey were very solid in the backs. Shane O’Halloran, also at wing back, was making a lot of strong runs out of defence and further up the field.
Though Midleton did get te opening scores, Colmcille’s were awarded a penalty in the 8th minute. Jack Hourigan opted to take his point on this occasion. As the final scoreline shows, this was the only score of the game. It was not for the want of trying but they were unable to breach the Midleton rearguard again.
