White’s Cross 2 – 12 St. Vincent’s 2 – 12

Our junior hurling team got their second draw in this year’s Junior 1 hurling league when they met St. Vincent’s on Easter Monday in White’s Cross. It is measure of where the team are though, that, considering the number of injured players we have, this draw has felt like a loss.  In the first half White’s Cross completely dominated proceedings. Brendan Quain kept his scoring form going from the defeat to Whitechurch when he taped over some nice scores from play. Daniel Kelleher, who had played wing back in the game against Whitechurch, went in corner forward and this move paid dividends immediately. He scored the key score in the opening quarter as the home side lead 1-04 to 0-01. They kept up the pressure to half time when a John McElhinney goal before the break ensured that lead was extended out to 2-08 to 0-03 at the short whistle.

This was the proverbial game of two halves as Vincent’s came roaring back into it. White’s Cross were reliant on Conor Buckley to get all their scores in the second half. His four pointed frees were the only scores for the ‘Cross in the second half. At the other end of the field we were also very much reliant on the outstanding Shane Cahill in goal who pulled off a number of great saves. In the end we secured a deserved draw (based on our first half performance). It could have been worse but given our lead at the break, the squad also feel like that they let the points behind them.
