St Colmcille’s had a big win when they visited Kildorrery to take on the local team in the first round of the under 12 grading league. Unfortunately, for both sides, this game never materialized as a contest. This is no slight on the hosts who, when these sides last met, recorded a similar big victory. As is often the case with underage games, when one team gets a run going the other can find it difficult to recover.
And this is what happened here. Colmcille’s got off to a great start. Noah Foley was outstanding at center-forward for the winners. He was fouled and Michael Looney slotted over the resultant free. Foley then helped himself to his first score from play of the evening. Ben Kennefick scored a goal in the 10th minute and in a game with no ‘turning point’ , as such, this was probably the crucial scores as it now put Colmcille’s 1 -04 to no score up. The contest was in effect over at this early juncture.
Colmcille’s had a big panel of players available. Multiple subs were made from here to end of the game. It did not effect their rhythm, however, and a further 1-03 was added leaving the half-time score reading 2-07 to 0-00 in favour of the away side.
The scores did not flow as freely in the second half. However, battle as they might, Kildorrery never threatened the visitors rearguard where Ollie Roche was in top form. Zach Forde’s goal was the key score of the half as Colmcille’s ran out 3-10 to no score winners over a gallant and hardworking Kildorrery side; a side that will hopefully have better days ahead.
