The first annual Seandún/City Division GAA Banquet took place in the Clayton Silversprings Hotel on Friday 22nd of November. Great credit must go to the Board and especially chairman Mick Buckley, Secretary Eddie Murphy , PRO Meagan Farr and their organising committee for putting on a very enjoyable evening.
Finbarr McCarthy (96 & C103 FM Sport) was the MC for the evening. He introduced the special guests Colm Burke TD (Fine Gael), Chairman of Seanad Eireann Jerry Buttimer (Fine Gael) and Leas-Cathaoirleach Coiste Contae Chorcaí Noel O’Callaghan (Cloch na Coillte). Each spoke of the great work being done by the City Division clubs and their officers.
Club-of-the-Month awards were presented to each winner. White’s Cross GAA were recipients of this award for the month of August. Our club president John Drummy was on hand to collect the slate plaque on behalf of the club.
After the meal, Ger Canning (RTE Sport) chaired a panel of Cork GAA legends Justin McCarthy, Jimmy Barry-Murphy, Seánie McGrath and Paddy O’Shea who had a very interesting discussion on their memories of City Division matches, the current state of the game in Cork and the fortunes of our inter-county teams.
There were further presentations of medals to all the various championship winners and players of the championship. Again, White’s Cross, due to our victory in the Junior C Football championship, were on the stage for these presentations. Dominic Cahill (selector) accepted the medals on behalf of our club.
Mick Barry (Delaneys) was the first recipient of the City Division Hall-of-Fame award. Again, a big thank you to the board and the organising committee for putting on a very enjoyable evening.
White’s Cross were represented on the evening by the officers of the club lotto committee Anne Reid, Geraldine Twomey, Pauline Hyde, Dominic Cahill; by John Drummy (Club President), Michael Coleman (Vice-Chairman and board delegate), Pat Reid (Rebel’s Bounty Co-ordinator) and Paul O’Donovan (PRO).
