White’s Cross won this Junior 4 football League game away to Nemo Rangers by the narrowest of margins. When these sides met a year previous in Trabeg the home side lead at one stage by fifteen points (4-04 to 0-01) before White’s Cross fought their way back into the game only to come up short by one point (4-06 to 2-011). This Nemo side is extremely experienced and contains a number of former inter-county players as well as a few others with county senior medals from year’s past. Again, this year we had to visit the Nemo venue to take to take them on. Again, we were not helped by the start that we made and after 25 minutes we trailed by nine points (1-07 to 0-01). Again we were giving ourselves the proverbial mountain to climb. Whilst last year we nearly reached the summit, this year we would go one better. Goals from Tom Casey and from center-back Ronan Quain either side of the half-time break propelled White’s Cross back into the game. |The game would ebb and flow throughout the half. Strong performances from Chris Dunne, Dan O’Sullivan, Richie Sherlock and Senan Ryan ensured the Nemo were restricted to just two scores in the second half. White’s Cross enjoyed most of the possession and but for wasteful finishing , could have taken the lead earlier. However, eventually late in the game we would take the lead. Luke Kelleher kicked two vital frees and a point from play in the second half which would ensure that we would go ahead at the end. We certainly deserved the victory though perhaps going forward we might not give our opponents such a head start!
