With one victory already secured, St Colmcille’s Under 15’s travelled to Dripsey to take on Lee Gaels in the Mid Cork u-15 hurling championship. Down the services of 3 players from the previous game this game could have proved a tricky tie for the lads; however an early goal from Alex Flynn after two minutes settled the team and they never looked back from there.
Another goal from Flynn and a well taken point from Ciaran Ryan saw Comcille’s lead 2-01 to 0-00 after 10 minutes. However, Lee Gaels came back into it and after 18 minutes the score was 2-01 to 0-04. St Colmcilles kicked it up a gear from there to the end of the first half with further scores from Eoghan Murnane, Dylan McDonnell, Alex Flynn, Darragh Cashman and the hard working Shay Murphy coupled with excellent defending from Jack Harte, Charlie O Callaghan, Oliver Crowley and Evan Quain leaving them in a commanding position at half time with a score line of 6-05 to 0-03.
A number of substitutes were introduced at half time which caused Colmcilles to briefly lose their shape a bit in the second half. However, the steadying influence of Micheal Leahy at the back, some tireless running by Darragh McGuire in midfield and some additional scores from David Donovan, Flynn and McDonnell meant they manged to finish out the game comfortable winners on a score line of St Colmcilles 7-9 Lee Gaels 4-7. After two bouts of the championship the lads top the group.
