Michael Hennessy passed away in early July 2022. Michael, through the Stirrup Bar, has been a great supporter of our Club. He has kindly sponsored the first prize and hosted our Annual Christmas Draw, for many years, through good times and bad. Indeed, even despite the fact the Stirrup had never reopened its doors since the Covid restrictions forced their closure back in March 2020, Michael continued to sponsor the first prize in 2020 and 2021.More than this though, Michael ensured that his bar, with its walls decorated with the photos of our teams- past and present, was an effective clubhouse for our members. We held our meetings there, we drowned our sorrows there. We celebrated our victories there. We replayed the matches there. At various times we had sing-songs, lock-ins, arguments… we were boisterous, rowdy and more. Every time Michael welcomed us warmly and without judgement. He was generous and tolerant. He was a great friend to many in the club and community . Many of us have great memories of Michael. We will all miss him.
