Well done to all involved in this win in what was a most entertaining game of football in the City Division Junior B Football Round 2 clash played at Ballinlough. White’s Cross started strongly with a few early points but were rocked by an early Bishopstown goal. However a fine surging run from Billy O Hara saw him score a great individual goal 20 minutes in and this gave the Cross the momentum again. At half time we led by two points 1-8 to 1-6 with some fine point taking from both sides being a real feature of this encounter -scores from Dylan Burke and Don O Connell were the pick of the crop for the Cross.
When Shane Cahill pounced for an early second half goal, after good work from Joe Cashman, this really put White’s Cross in the driving seat as we led by 7 points. However the Town weren’t going to lie down and only for some sterling defence work from Eoin Whooley, Padraig Murnane and Derek O Connor this lead would have been much slimmer. The Town did finally get in for a goal and they smelled blood momentarily only to be rocked by a superb Bryan O Sullivan equivalent immediately from the kick-out. For the remaining 15 minutes Kevin Buckley marshalled matters from his centre back berth to ensure Bishopstown had to work really hard to get through to Dave Buckley’s goal but even then, Dave and his defence were up to the task and White’s Cross held on for a well merited win.
