On the 30th of November 2014, at the wonderful Vienna Woods Hotel, we brought down the curtains on what has been a fantastic year for White’s Cross GAA Juvenile Club. Here we acknowledged the outstanding efforts of all our young players, both boys and girls, from 5 years old all the way up to 18 years.
In sport there might be a tendency, at such an end of year event, to gauge success by the amount of silverware on display, and while White’s Cross GAA fared very well on that metric this year, we measure year-on-year performance differently. And, yes while we had four trophies on display from final wins in 2014, what is particularly satisfying for all involved in White’s Cross GAA Juvenile Club is the honest endeavour shown by our players, whether it is on the training field or in competitive action. The boys and girls continue to make massive strides in learning the skills of our great games, and do so in a fun and relaxed environment.
Hopefully you will agree it is a much enhanced environment that they are now applying themselves in also given the great improvements to our Club’s facilities over the past couple of years and we aint’ finished yet…!
Thanks also to all the parents / guardians of these boys and girls, not alone for turning up in such large numbers to add formality to this evening’s proceedings, but more importantly have supported and encouraged their children and their local GAA Club throughout the year – míle buíochas daoibh go léir.
Thanks also to our guest-of-honour Niamh Ní Chaoimh for presenting the medals and for her kind words regarding the good work going on in our Club. It was fitting to have Niamh, a four time All Ireland winner in attendance tonight, given that 2014 was the first year that White’s Cross GAA had formally operated as a ladies football club, following on from our first foray as a camogie club in 2013.
A very fitting touch this evening was the music that was provided by John and Michael Meade at either side of the formalities. John and Mike are the Cultural Officers at White’s Cross GAA Club and their excellent choice of music fitted this shared title very well – míle buíochas lads. Not alone was Michael Meade responsible for the great music but he also double-jobbed as photographer and has forwarded on these splendid photos from the presentation. Crosaire An Fhaoitigh Abú!
