White’s Cross 1 – 12 Mayfield 1 – 19

White’s Cross finished off their league campaigns in both the A and B competitions in the past week. Despite two very good showings, we, unfortunately did not come away with the spoils in either game. The A hurlers were first up with a home game against Blackrock on Wednesday night last. This was a very close encounter in which the visitors narrowly got over the line with only two points between the sides at the final whistle; the final score was Blackrock 0-18 White’s Cross 0-16.

Two nights later the Junior B hurlers travelled to Mayfield to take on the home side in a junior B hurling league Round 5 clash. This was another keenly contest affair throughout. Newcomer David Johnson was very impressive in this opening half and he chipped in with three vey good points from play. Cormac Dervan also added three points -two from play and one from a free while Murt Kelleher scored a super long distance point. Livewire forward Seán O Neill got the goal for White’s Cross who trailed at half time by 1-9 to 1-07. In the second half the scores were harder to come by and despite Billy O’Hara getting a point on his return to hurling action, the team were largely reliant on Shane O’Leary to get scores from place balls to keep the scoreboard ticking over. At the end White’s Cross went under by four points. The final score was White’s Cross 1-11 Mayfield 1-15.
